"Greenways Krakov - Moravia - Vienna"

Project Greenways Krakov - Moravia - Vienna deals creating of corridor of environmental friendly tourism's development. Through international cycle path it connects two important Central-European metropolises Krakov and Vienna. In the territory of the Czech republic this corridor goes through northern, central and southern Moravia. Thanks to a varied offer of natural and cultural tourist attractions, attractive destinations, varied landscape and sufficient amount of services for cycle tourists these regions are ideal places for cycle tourism.

Axle of the whole corridor are 2 rachidial trails of the total length of spproximately 550 km. They are divided into separate phases so that they enable to visiters to look down upon most attractivities and interests in certain region. In the territory of northern Moravia it is most of all Beskydy foothills with their typical scattered Silesian housing, surrounding of Žermanice artificial lake inciting to water sports, pictoresque nature of Protected Landscape Area Poodří, numerous historical towns, extant castle buildings and birthplace of important personalities. The nature of Moravian Gate and fertile Haná region inspire you by rides through Central Moravia where neither opportunity for participation in sport and cultural activities is missing. The Moravian carst - it is region of caves of Sloup - Šošůvka region, known for gorge Macocha together with the Punkva cave and nice surroundings, challenging to various trips - on bicycles or by foot.
In the region of southern Moravia the route leads you to places with extraordinary historical and pre-historic importance (e.g. Dolní Věstonice), among vineyards, parks and bodegas. A possiblity to visit villages situated in famous viticultural regions is provided to you in which amount of unique historical monuments stayed well-kept, to learn local folklore and traditions and not least also to degust good wine in some of numerous bodegas. Lovers of atractivities of world importance certainly welcome a visit of Lednice - Valtice area - so-called Garden of Europe - registered on the list of monuments UNESCO.

Cycle paths are lead out of frequent roads on individual communication for cyclists or on less frequented roads of III. class. Thanks to mild climate it is possible to use a trail almost in each season of year.

An aim into future is to improve quality of offered services and offer of tourist products in the corridor of trail. That is why already now is taken into account another cooperation with the Partnership Foundation and to use its programm of services certification friendly to cycle tourists. This programm is named "Cyclists welcome". Symbol of "smiling bicycle" guarantees that you will be in certain accommodation, catering or another tourist facilities taken a good care.

The main coordinator of programm Greenways is the Partnership Foundation residing in Brno. The coordinator of project Greenways Krakov - Moravia - Vienna in Moravian-Silesian region is the Poodří Region residing in Bartošovice in Moravia.

What can you do for nature?
Cycle path Krakov - Moravia - Vienna is intended for unpowered transport. The nicest on cycle tourist is just experience from free nature, unloaded by negative fall-outs of automobile transport. During your wandering in the corridor of this trail you can listen to birds singing, look down upon storks and herons, observe fishes in the lakes and ponds or see partridges, pheasants and harts. So that these experiences are enabled also to other visiters, please meet the following principles:
In preference use your bicycle. If you cannot use for the transport on cycle path a bicycle, use mass transport means. A train ride to point of departure of your route is comfortable, you needn't go back to the point of departure and moreover you spare nature. The trail is situated near to Railways routes Ostrava - Přerov - Brno. By most of the connections of these routes a simplified transport of bicycles is enabled: you pay transport charges for bicycle together with buying of railway ticket and you take your bicycle with yourself direct into wagon which is adapted to transporting the bicycles. Please, do not throw rubbish away along the trail. Along the trails there is situated a sufficient amount of litter bins.
Do not pull protected plants, and thus not only in the regions of protected landscape areas and do not disturb animals in their natural surroundings.
Take care of walkers and other users of trails (for example wheelchair bounds).
Cycling is certainly an experiance but is not suitable in ecologically sensitive localities (for example Protected Landscape Area Poodří). In similar localities better put off your bicycle and set out on a nature trail on foot.
Spend the nights and camp only at marked places, camps or camping sites.
Do not forget that for people living and providing services in the corridor of trail there is cycle tourism one of living resources. Support them - buy local products, ask for domestic base materials, regional specialities.

Bicycle can be transported on each fast train, express train or passenger train which is marked with sign of "suitcase". Trains with special wagons for extended self-service transport of bicycles by passengers are marked with sign of bicycle. On the trains in which these wagons are not ranked bicycles are transported on the first and last platform of set of carriages where at most two bicycles can be. Passenger has himself to load and unload a bicycle and bears the responsibility for the whole time of drive. Price of transport of one bicycle is 20,- CZK. In case, that passengers himself loads and unloads a bicycle onto a service wagon, he settles 30,- CZK.

Characterization of Greenways:
Green trails Greenways are routes, communications or natural corridors, used by course of their ecological function and potential for sport, tourism and recreation. They bring benefit in the sphere of nature conservation and cultural heritage protection, they improve transport, recreation and tourism possibilities, they are challenge for more healthier life-style and sustainable using of local resources. Green trails lead citizens, representatives, offices and enterpreneurs to common planning and improving of life in their village and community.

Programm Green trails - Greenways is a grant and assistance program of the Partnership Foundation, that is based on cooperation, partnership and mutual coordination of projects and initiatives, close to mission of this programm.
