On August 29th and 30th near the village of Přestanov, and in mid-September close to Varvažov, units of the retreating French army clashed with combined Austrian, Prussian and Russian forces.
In both battles, which were lost by Napoleon´s troops, over 36 000 lives were lost. A significant contribution to the victories was made by the Russian Guards Cavalry ant the Austrian divisions of General Collorado-Mansfeld.
